GasNet Limited is a company dedicated to the ownership and management of natural gas networks and meters, predominantly in the Whanganui-Manawatu region of the North Island of New Zealand.
Based in the picturesque city of Whanganui, GasNet owns and operates reticulated natural gas networks serving Whanganui, Marton, Bulls, Lake Alice, Waitotara and Flockhouse. When combined these networks comprise approximately 400km of gas mains and 13,000 service connections.
In addition to its network business, GasNet owns and operates meters on GasNet and Powerco gas networks in the Whanganui, Manawatu, and Hawkes Bay regions.
GasNet is a 100% New Zealand owned company and can be traced back as far as 1879 when manufactured gas was first introduced to the settlement of Whanganui.
A lot has changed since then, Whanganui became a city in 1924 and natural gas replaced manufactured gas in 1970, but with all of the mergers and acquisitions that has occurred over the last decade within the industry, our business has remained relatively untouched.
We employ a dedicated team of people who are passionate about what they do with an almost enviable knowledge of our assets that we manage.
GasNet is not an energy retailer nor does it own any gas, but it does provide network and metering services to the gas and energy retailers. Although GasNet does not have a direct relationship with consumers, it does have responsibilities to deliver gas safely and reliably, something that GasNet takes seriously.
